Ghanaian singer and songwriter Joe Mettle is a blessed soul and not a day goes by that he doesn’t admit it.

Born Joseph Oscar Nii Armah Mettle, his beginnings in music saw him hone his craft of gospel music by being a backup artist. He backed the vocals of then-established artists like the late Danny Nettey, Cindy Thompson and Tom Bright Davies.

He gave birth to Joe Mettle Ministries in 2007. Everything worked out well and he became the lead singer of ‘Soul Winners’, a deeply multicultural band. This would give him fame and notoriety in Ghana and South Africa where he appeared on the SA Broadcasting Corporation TV show “Gospel Classics” courtesy of Donnie McClurkin.

Mettle has won numerous awards in his gospel career since 2011 when he gained proper recognition to date, but his most memorable award to date is the VGMA Artist of the Year award. He won it in the Christian music category and made history by becoming the first Ghanaian to win this award.

Below are Joe Mettle’s top five tracks for your listening pleasure!

My everything

Maybe the fact that it’s a Thanksgiving song makes it a lasting hit with 7 million views on YouTube. The afrobeat sound of the song makes it easy to move. A listener is quickly aware of the danceable nature of the song from the first beat. Joe Mettle sings this song in English and Twi. For the majority of listeners, this makes it easier to follow along and sing along.

Even if you can’t speak Twi, you can still have fun singing and dancing to the lyrics. It’s the same for people who don’t speak or read English but can understand Twi.

Adoration Medley ft Sound Of Heaven Adoration

Onwanwani

This is deeply spiritual. “Onwanwani” loosely translates to “God of wonders”. He sings in Twi, perhaps with the aim of driving the message deep into the hearts and minds of his people. Part of the song is about the power of prayer and faith. He says there is nothing so great in the eyes of God for those who trust him. It’s a feel-good song for the days when you feel broken and tired.

Bo Noo Ni

Joe Mettle features Luigi Maclean on this super hit. “Boo Noo Ni” is special in many ways because everyone can relate to it, which explains its 10 million views on YouTube. Joe says it was a personal testimony. From his email, you can feel his gratitude. He confesses that he is what he is today because God has always been with him and showed mercy to his life. He does not forget to mention how God saved him when he was drowning.

Amen
