The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (CFVI) announced that in partnership with the USVI Governor’s Office, it has awarded $1.425 million in Education Stabilization Fund (ESF) grants to educational agencies, higher education institutions and other education-related entities. in the St. Thomas/St. John district. The funding is allocated to provide emergency assistance in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Governor’s Office has asked CFVI to help identify eligible subrecipients for federal Education Stabilization Fund funds under the U.S. Bailout Act of 2021 (ARP). were selected through a competitive process and received funding to provide emergency education services to students, provide childcare and early childhood education, provide social and emotional support, and protect education-related jobs.
Funding will support efforts to provide students with safer in-person learning opportunities; to meet the social, emotional, mental health and academic needs of students; addressing education inequalities exacerbated by the pandemic; to deal with the academic impact of lost teaching time; and to support technology infrastructure and professional training to improve capacity and provide comprehensive distance learning.
All applications were reviewed by a review committee comprised of community members with experience and expertise in education and grantmaking.
