KEOKUK (WGEM) – As the need for food increases, a church in Lee County continues to meet that need in the Keokuk community.
The New Testament Christian Church typically distributes about 150 boxes of food through its mobile pantry.
This month, after receiving calls asking for more boxes to be distributed, the church distributed 225.
Director of Child and Family Services Dawn Farris said pantry workers received about 100 more boxes than usual from the Iowa Food Bank to distribute.
“We ran out last month, that’s one of the reasons we ordered more,” Farris said. “The second is back to school is tough and you know gas prices are high, people have high air conditioning bills in their homes right now, they’re back to school shopping and you know shoes and clothes and it’s like ‘I just don’t have enough money to stretch out the grocery bills’, so we’re going to keep doing whatever we can.
Farris said anyone in need of a box of food can contact her at the church at (319) 524-8727.
She said their mobile pantry operates on the last Tuesday of every two months, but she can make arrangements with you to get food on another day if you need it.
