PLDT-Smart Foundation (PSF), in collaboration with Smart Communications Inc. (Smart), recently donated 50 sets of Smart LTE Pocket WiFi with 150,000P charging cards for students and young beneficiaries of Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) of Makati.
The initiative is part of PSF and Smart’s #NoLearnerLeftBehind advocacy that aims to bridge the gap between digital education, teachers, students and schools nationwide. This is one of the key initiatives of PLDT and Smart to strengthen their commitment to help the Philippines achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 4 on inclusive quality education. .
“We are committed to defending equal and quality education for all. By reaching out to more communities and organizations, we aim to become facilitators of opportunities to empower our youth across the country,” said PLDT-Smart Foundation President Esther Santos.
Smart LTE Pocket WiFi units and charging cards will allow recipients to connect to the nationwide Smart LTE network, allowing them to access the Internet for their learning needs.
“The WiFi donation will help them with the remote learning setup imposed by the onset of the pandemic. Education in Makati is free but there are other needs to be addressed, especially WiFi connectivity and access information online,” said YMCA President Tomas Banguis. said Jr.
The PLDT Group and the YMCA are also exploring opportunities for hyper-collaboration in their joint advocacy on children’s rights, cyber wellbeing and safety, education, livelihoods, and mental health awareness.
