The Pleasantville Christian Church will hold its first major service in its new building since a fire destroyed the old church building on March 30, 2020. Pastor Don Naftz spoke with KNIA/KRLS News about what it means for him and the congregation.
“It means a lot, the congregation was founded in 1849 and when the church burned down it was 120 years old. When it burned down we didn’t know what was going to happen if we were going to rebuild or not. The pandemic had just start and at the time of the fire we were all isolated in our homes due to the lockdown at the time and we just didn’t know it The congregation came together and voted once we could and decided to rebuild. The process took a little over two years. New life is what is symbolic for us and we happen to be having our first service on Easter Sunday. Easter is synonymous with new life, resurrection , hope, God’s grace, God’s mercy and God’s compassion.
The service will begin at 10:00 a.m. The church is located at 308 W. Dallas Street in Pleasantville
