Reverend Gillett called as regional minister of the Christian Church of Kentucky


LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Rev. Dr. Donald K. Gillett II, DMin 2006, has been called as the new regional minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Kentucky after the unanimous regional council vote on Saturday May 22. The Rev. Dr Gillett has been recommended to this position by the Regional Minister’s Research Team. His ministry will begin on August 1.

Reverend Dr. Gillett has dedicated many services to the Kentucky area. He has served as a senior pastor at East Second Street Christian Church in Lexington for the past 22 years. Since June 2017, he has been Executive Director of the Kentucky Council of Churches and is on the faculty of Lexington Theological Seminary.

“I am honored and privileged to have been called to regional ministry in Kentucky,” said Rev. Dr. Gillett. “I am really excited and feel called to this ministry right now and look forward to working with everyone who makes up the Kentucky Christian Church.”

“After extensive research, the team felt that Reverend Dr Gillett was the person God called for this position,” said Rev. Kory Wilcoxson, chair of the regional ministerial research team. “Her relational nature, vibrant presence, and commitment to the health of the region will be a blessing for Kentucky as we move forward.”

Reverend Dr Gillett has many credentials to his credit. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, TX; a master’s degree in divinity from McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago; an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University, Marion, IN; and a doctorate in ministry from Lexington Theological Seminary.

In addition to his current service, Reverend Dr Gillett has a great deal of local, regional and general experience. He is currently president of the board of directors of the UCMS of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He is the outgoing president of the board of directors of the national convocation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He has served as Chair / Co-Chair of the Board of Directors of the Overseas Ministries Division of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and Co-Chair of the Global Ministries of the Disciples of Christ and United Church Christian Church. of Christ. He is also a past moderator of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Kentucky and president of the Kentucky Christian Missionary Convention.

A passage from Rev. Dr. Gillett is from Ephesians 4: 11-13: “The gifts he gave were that some would be apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of the ministry, to build up the body of Christ, until we all come to the unity of faith and knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ .

Reverend Dr Gillett is married to Dr Charisse L. Gillett, President of Lexington Theological Seminary. They have four children, Jeremy, Liyah, Tasia and Donald III (Trey), and a grandson, Jayda.
