School permit gets green light from commission | Education

The South Boston Planning Commission, in a meeting Wednesday night, gave the go-ahead to owners of CH Friend to consider opening a nondenominational private Christian school at 601 Marshall Ave.

Owner Jack Dunavant had applied for a Special Use Permit to operate the school in the historic structure which operated as a public secondary school and more recently as an elementary school, closing in 2008. The building is in a R-2, Medium Density Residential District, and a Special Use Permit is required to operate a school in this zoning district.

CH Friend School board member Alfred Jones discusses plans for the new non-denominational private Christian school at a South Boston planning commission Wednesday night.
