Science Hill Christian Church prepares for future move | New

Members of Science Hill Christian Church gathered at the site of what will be their new church on East Frog Hollow Road on Sunday 4th September.

Same church name. Same church family. New place of construction of the church.

Science Hill Christian Church has stood faithfully at the corner of North Stanford Street and Ky. 1247 in northern Pulaski County since 1859. However, the church will fall, likely in a few years, to improve roads in Science Hill. to ease the problems with the railroad, and so, like the Spirit, the church moves.

“We are excited about new beginnings, a new opportunity,” said Gordy Prather, pastor of Science Hill Christian Church. “We’re trying to embrace each other and prepare for what’s happening.”

The new road will bypass the railway tracks. There were several options on the table for the state highway department, and the one that was chosen would cross the space where the church currently stands, as well as several other properties, Prather noted.

“Over the past several months, the Science Hill Christian construction project team has been researching and evaluating possible new locations for its future building,” Prather said.

But the church, which currently has a congregation of about 140 people, has found its new home. The new Science Hill Christian Church will be located on East Frog Hollow Road, effectively residing along busy North US 27.

Prather said one of the church members owns land there and has agreed to sell it to the church to build a new facility.

Change is not new to Science Hill Christan Church (SHCC). Renovations have been carried out over the years at the Stanford Street location, but in January 1994 this building was engulfed in flames due to an electrical problem. In May 1995, the current building was opened for worship for the first time.

Prather noted that it was difficult to say when the new church would be completed, based on working with the state to purchase church property. He said he hoped they could stay at the current church building until construction begins on the road, likely in 2024 at the earliest, when the project is expected to begin.

SHCC is already preparing for this new chapter in their church’s history. Last Sunday, September 4, the congregation gathered for worship and a barbecue at their new location, gathered in an open field for a time of worship, fellowship and prayer. They concluded their worship with their congregants surrounded hand in hand praying over the future location, Prather noted.

“They prayed for God’s guidance, God’s wisdom and God’s blessing not only on their future building project, but also on their future ministry opportunities at their East Frog Hollow Road location,” he said. -he declares.

Prather said Science Hill Independent School graciously allowed the SHCC to use its auditorium on Sunday mornings for worship while they are between buildings. Meanwhile, SHCC will continue to periodically gather in the new location to ask for God’s blessings in this new era of the Science Hill Christian Church.
