Who has the best dorms in South Carolina?

Would it be the university that has all the single rooms in a suite. And two bathrooms?

A full kitchen?

Or this – a washer and dryer in each home-like suite, not coin-operated.

This is what many universities look for when planning student living spaces.

And according to Nichewhich offers profiles on every college and school in the United States, the best dorms in South Carolina – 11th in the nation – are at University of South Carolina Beauforta 1,990 student university with partner campuses in Bluffton and Hilton Head.

Founded in 1795, it became part of the USC system in 1959, offering two-year degrees to 82 students. The school management fought to become a four-year university, which it won in 2004.

It has grown steadily ever since and was for some time one of the fastest growing universities in the country.

Here’s what Niche says about USC Beaufort beyond A+ in dorms: A- diversity, B faculty, campus safety, B- academics, food on campus, athletics (go Sand Sharks), value (after average aid of $16,574 per year), C+ student life, party scene, location (15 miles from Hunting Island State Park – Hilton Head campus 1 mile).

University spokeswoman Carol Weir said all dormitories at USCB are brand new.

“They’re really awesome,” she said.

It’s three stories high and Lowcountry style, which Lowcountry Home describes as simple, practical and understated.

The university requires students to live on campus for their first two semesters unless they are over 21, have medical clearance, need to care for siblings, or they live close to their parents.

Niche considers safety, cost, capacity, but most importantly student feedback on its website.

No other South Carolina schools were on the list.

The best school for dorms was Johnson University, a private Christian school in Knoxville, Tennessee; followed by Washington University in St. LouisMissouri; High Point University in High Point, North Carolina; Union University in Jackson, Tennessee; Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona.
